Trucker arrested with poppy straw

KATHUA, Aug 25: A trucker has been arrested along with 4.300 kilograms of poppy straw at Lakhanpur.
As per official spokesman, a joint team of the officials of Toll Post Lakhanpur and Police Station Lakhanpur intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number PB22K-4828 carrying fresh fruit which were consigned by M/s Riyaz Fruit Traders, Sopore, Kashmir to M/s Asa Nand Subash and Co, Punjab.
During checking, 4.300 kilograms of poppy straw were recovered from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who has been identified as Rajeev Kumar (29), son of Manohar Lal of Taragarh Punjab.
A case under FIR Number 74/17 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Lakhanpur police station and investigation started.
The whole operation was conducted by the joint team headed by Excise and Taxation Officer Showkat Hayat Mattoo and SHO Police Station Lakhanpur Kulbir Choudhary alongwith Incharge Inspector Gulrez Malik, Inspectors Khalid Javed Manhas and Anil Sharma, Incharge Sub-Inspectors Kanw-aljeet Shan, Sheikh Towseef and Sub-Inspector Vinay Kumar, Head Excise Guard Mohammad Riaz and Excise Guards Dharm Singh and Amjad Islam under the supervision of SSP Kathua, Mohammad Suleman Choud-hary and Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur, Vishesh Paul Mahajan.
