JAMMU, Sept 9: Rich tributes were paid to Major Akash Singh on his martyrdom day during a function in this connection, organized by Team Jammu.
Major Akash Singh, Shaurya Chakra, had attained martyrdom while fighting terrorists during an encounter on Line of Control in Poonch district on September 9, 2009.
Family members of Maj Akash, including his wife Deepti Sambyal, brothers Rajeshwar Singh, Dr Jagdev Singh and Vikas Singh were present on the occasion and they also paid floral tributes. Click here to watch video
Member Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Shamsher Singh Manhas, who was chief guest on the occasion, stressed that people need to bond themselves with sacrifices of the soldiers. “Those who attain supreme sacrifices for nation are lucky ones and we must stand by the family members of martyrs so that they don’t feel alienated,” he added.
Chairman of Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, who presided over the function, said that people should not forget the supreme sacrifices of our soldiers who gave their lives while guarding borders for nation’s safety. He said that the youth must unite and stand in support of our forces so that they may not feel demoralized in the hands of anti-national elements.
“Nation will forever remain indebted to soldiers like Major Akash Singh who fought valiantly, upheld highest traditions of our armed forces and nation,” said guest of honour, SSP Jammu, Tejinder Singh.
“Today Major Akash Singh, recipient of Shaurya Chakra, is not with us, but he will always remain alive in the hearts and a role model for younger generation”, said ADC, Jammu, Rishpal.
Students of Dr B R Ambedkar Convent High School and Devan Devi Higher Secondary School participated in the function and delivered speeches on martyrs. They were also given cash prizes by Team Jammu.
On the occasion, a Dogri poem on valiant martyr Major Akash Singh was presented by noted poet Randheer Singh Raipuria.
President of Shaheed Major Akash Park Development Committee, Dr Om Parkash presented the welcome address while Er Chandan Datta presented vote of thanks. SP City, North, Amritpal Singh, SDPO Bakshi Nagar, Amit Kumar Sharma, SHO Police Station, Bakshi Nagar, Inspector, Karan Chalotra, Mangal Dass Sharma, Girdhari Lal Bhagat, Tara Chand and noted poets, Om Dalmotra and Ashok Kumar Khajuria were also present on the occasion.
