JAMMU, Apr 13: J&K Freedom Fighter Association (JKFFA) and Shri Ram Sena (SRS) on Monday paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
A handout stated that due to COVID-19 lockdown amidst restrictions, authorities have already appealed public in general and Sikh community in particular to avoid gathering on Baisakhi festival which happens to be foundation day of Khalsa Panth.
Vice Chairman JKFFA and Sri Ram Sena J&K President, Rajiv Mahajan while speaking on the occasion termed Jallianwala Bagh massacre as one of the most brutal and gory events in Indian history that resulted in the martyrdom of about 1,000 people.
He said that British soldiers under the command of Brigadier Reginald Dyer had opened fire on innocent people in the year 1919 at Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar on the day of Baisakhi.
He further said that Dyer was killed on March 13, 1940, by Uddham Singh, a member of Gaddar party in revenge for the massacre.
Chairman JKFFA Ved Gandotra and President R.C Puri also paid tribute to the martyrs.
