JAMMU, Feb 1: All J&K Transport Welfare Association has warned to go on strike if the Government failed to resolve their issues within 10 days.
In a general body meeting of the Association held here today under the chairmanship of TS Wazir, the members expressed strong resentment over the attitude of the Government. They alleged that despite assurances by the concerned Minister and other higher authorities in the State, their issues have remained unattended.
The representatives from various trucks, tankers, buses, mini-buses, taxies, auto-rikshaw unions/ bodies participated in the meeting. They said that transport industry has already suffered a lot due to militancy, floods during 2014 and Kashmir unrest besides disturbances on borders.
They said the rates of petrol and diesel are increasing very day and are not bearable for the transporters. Also hike of 18 % in the rates of insurance service charges, 18 % on body fabrication of vehicles has further created more problems for the transporters. National Highway Authority of India is charging at least Rs 1100 per day from the vehicles operating on highways. State is going to introduce OLA Cab in J&K which is also against the interest of local transporters. They urged upon the State Govt to increase the passenger fare within ten days or face agitation/ strike by the transporters.
