Three Punjab residents arrested with large quantity of illicit liquor

JAMMU, Sept 16: Jhajjar Kotli and Banihal Police arrested three Punjab residents along with large quantity of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on reliable information, a team from Police Station Jhajjar Kotli led by SHO Inspector Devinder Singh under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Parupkar Singh laid a naka and intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB10CM-9156.
During checking, police team recovered around 177 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who was identified as Namneet Singh, son of Didar Singh of Harbanspura Tehsil Hilalpura District Fatehgarh Punjab.
Meanwhile, on specific information, a team from Police Station Banihal led by SHO Nayeem Mattoo under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Ashish Gupta laid a naka at T Chowk and intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB08BE-5516.
During checking, police team recovered 28 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver along with his associate.
The arrested persons were identified as Binder Kumar (driver), son of Chunni Lal and Surjit Singh, son of Sodi Singh, both residents of Punjab.
During preliminary questioning, the accused confessed that they were illegally transporting the contraband substance towards Punjab.
Cases under relevant Sections have been registered at Police Stations Jhajjar Kotli and Banihal and investigation started.
