Three drug peddlers arrested with poppy straw, heroin

RAMBAN, Mar 27: Three drug peddlers have been arrested along with poppy straw and heroin.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Banihal Police Station laid a naka near T Chowk and intercepted a Punjab bound truck bearing registration number PB07R-1595.
During search of the truck, police team recovered 450 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in 18 bags and arrested the driver.
The arrested person has been identified as Gurmail Singh alias Sonu, son of Baldev Singh of Mundi, Tehsil Sultanpur District Kapoorthala Punjab.
During preliminary investigation, the accused disclosed that he had bought the consignment from Sangam area of District Anantnag and was meant for selling among the youth in Punjab.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the past one week, Banihal Police arrested 8 drug peddlers and huge quantity of cannabis, poppy straw and heroin were recovered.
A case under FIR Number 36/19 under section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Banihal and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Banihal Inspector Aijaz Ahmed Wani and Incharge Jawahar Tunnel Police Post SI Sameer Ahmed made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Sajjad Sarwar, Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma.
Meanwhile, a joint team of District Special Branch (DSB) Jammu and Police Station Bakshi Nagar led by ASI Bholanath apprehended a drug peddler namely Mohammad Shahwal, son of Shahswar Mirza of Bhattian Tehsil Thanamandi, District Rajouri along with 8 grams heroin.
A case under FIR Number 51/19 under section 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bakshi Nagar and investigation is underway.
In another similar incident, a team from RS Pura Police Station led by SHO Inspector Chanchal Singh arrested an absconding drug peddler along with 12 kilograms of poppy straw.
The accused has been identified as Raj Kumar, son of Om Parkash, a resident of Bhojpur, Tehsil RS Pura, District Jammu.
He was involved in a case registered under FIR Number 37/19 under section 8/15/25/27-A/29 NDPS Act with Police Station RS Pura.
It is pertinent to mention here that two associates of Raj Kumar involved in this case were arrested earlier along with 50 kilograms of poppy straw.
