Three arrested for kidnapping, extorting money

LEH, Jan 21: Police arrested three persons for kidnapping two persons and extorting money.
As per police spokesman, on January 16 this year, a complaint was received by Police Post Housing Colony Leh from a person namely Padma Angchuk (labourer by profession), son of Tsering Phunchok of Heniskot Kargil stating that on January 14, 2022 three unknown persons travelling in a Santro car abducted him and his friend from New Bus Stand Leh and took them to Skampari area and extorted an amount of Rs 16000 from him.
The victim further said that he came to Leh for purchasing of some household items and on reaching Leh he met with his friend namely Lobzang Takpa of Zanskar at Skalzangling, who is also a labourer by profession. “We both went to New Bus Stand Leh for having some food in a restaurant and after having food, we were searching for a hotel room near bus stand for night stay as we don’t have any accommodation at Leh”, the complainant said, adding that as we were searching for a room, we were encountered by a accused namely Rigzen Dorjay, son of Tsering Dorjay of Lingshed and his accomplice vis Manish KC, son of Lal Bahadur of Nepal who told us that they will arrange a better room for night stay and forcefully took us in their Santro car driven by Manish KC.
“Rigzen along with associate took us to Skampari area where they were joined by their third accomplice namely Jatin Sharma, son of Raghu Sharma of Jammu”, the complainant said, adding that trio threatened us and extorted Rs 16000- cash from me (complainant Padma Angchuk).
The complainant said that the accused beat us up with fists and blows and threatened of dire consequences if we inform police or anybody else.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 03/2022 under Sections 364A, 392, 394 and 506 IPC was registered and investigation started.
On the basis of the body description and attire provided by the victims, Leh Police sent different search parties and succeeded in arresting all the three accused who committed this heinous crime.
During questioning, trio confessed their involvement in committing the crime and on their disclosure Rs 9600 has been recovered by police along with the Santro Car bearing registration number DL2CAD-8190, used by the arrested persons in committing the crime.
Further questioning of the arrested persons is going on to ascertain their involvement in any other criminal activities.
