Thieves strike J&K Bank, Khidmat Centre; decamp with lakhs of rupees

DODA, Feb 24: The thieves struck at Jammu and Kashmir Bank Kastigarh and its adjacent Khidmat Centre and decamped with lakhs of rupees.
According to SSP Doda, Mohd Shabir Ahmed Malik, an information was received this morning by Incharge Police Post Kashtigarh from an official of Branch Kashtigarh of J&K Bank that a burglary has been committed in the bank branch and adjacent Khidmat Centre on the intervening night of February 23 and 24.

He said a police party rushed to the spot and found that the main door of the branch was opened by breaking its locks with a welding machine. “The thieves also disconnected CCTV cameras and Siren by cutting their wires. The Safe of the Bank was broke opened by the thieves by making a hole in it with the help of welding machine”, the SSP said.
The officer said that as per cashier of the bank the currency notes worth Rs 13,10,000 were inside the Safe. However, he said it could not be ascertained how much cash has been stolen as the door of Safe had got jammed due to welding.
“Apart from it, thieves also broke open adjacent Khidmat Centre and stole forty thousand rupees from it. They also stole DVR of CCTV camera system,” the SSP said, adding that Police has registered a case in this connection and detained four suspects. Further investigation is going on, he added.
