JAMMU, Sept 14: A four week long UGC- General Orientation Course for University and College teachers, being organized by the UGC- Human Resource Development Centre ( HRDC), University of Jammu, concluded here today.
Former Director General of Police and CVC, Kuldeep Khoda was chief guest in the valedictory function and he called upon the teachers to lead by an example as they have a pivotal role to play in nation building.
“In an institution, the teacher is a role model for the student and while at home it is his or her parents that the student look up to and hence the society we live in and its progression is primarily influenced or molded by these two agents of change in teaching,” he explained.
Kuldeep Khoda also cited many examples from his distinguished carrier to motivate and encourage the participating teachers to tread the path of righteousness and commitment. “All of you young teachers are at the threshold of your bright carriers and have a big responsibility in crafting out the success stories of the future generations; I wish you the best of luck.” He added.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof RD Sharma, who presided over the function, emphasized the need for better research and knowledge generation by the teaching community.. He called upon the teachers to make best use of their time and develop scientific – empirical temper. He also advised the teachers to explore avenues for fellowships and research in leading institutions of India and foreign countries.
Prof JP Singh Joorel, Director HRDC, in his address, underlined the need for organizing General Orientation Course by HRDC and its contribution in their personal and academic growth of the teachers.
Kuldeep Khoda and Prof RD Sharma also distributed certificates among successful teachers.
Ranjeet Kalra, teaching faculty with HRDC, presented a formal vote of thanks on the occasion.
Earlier, the Course Incharge Prof Pankaj Srivastava outlined various areas of study that were covered during the one month long course. Two Participating teachers, Dr Navdeep Kaur and Dr Subash Chander also spoke on the occasion.
