Taxing Langar committees triggers protest

ARNIA, June 11: Shiv Sena Hindustan (SSH) J&K president, Rajesh Kesri here today chaired a meeting of heads of various villages from Arnia to mobilize public opinion against Government’s move to tax Langar committee offering free Langar to pilgrims of upcoming Amarnath Ji Yatra.
Addressing the meeting Kesri said that the government should abolish tax on Langar committees as there is no tax on Haj pilgrimage in J&K.
After meeting, SSH activists led by Kesri torched the effigy of Lieutenant Governor in Arnia Chowk to express resentment against imposing of tax on Langar committees.
Kesri demanded that the government should direct Deputy Commissioners concerned to facilitate all the service providers so that facilities created at each location are appropriate and sufficient for both the devotees and facilitators.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Balveer Kumar, Vijay Luthra, Balwant, Gara Ram, Rajesh Kumar and others.
