Tagore’s philosophy relevant today, despite passage of time: President

NEW DELHI, May 8:
President Pranab Mukherjee today paid glowing tributes to Dr Rabindranath Tagore and said his philosophy of harmony, peace, love and goodwill and vision of ‘ONE WORLD’ remained relevant even today, despite the passage of time.
Describing Tagore as a “renaissance personality” and one of the most outstanding creative geniuses of modern India whose “legacy will always endure,” the President said such souls not only illuminate the times they lived in, but also remain an inspiration for humanity.
A revered poet, writer, painter, author of the National Anthem and Asia’s first Nobel laureate in literature, Tagore was a global citizen who believed that one could promote one’s own culture while appreciating the culture of others, the President said in a message on Tagore’s birth anniversary. He said Tagore did not see any contradiction between respect for universal values, while maintaining one’s own. “On the occasion of the birthday of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, I join fellow citizens in paying tribute to this great nationalist and thinker, who was far ahead of his times,” the President added.
