JAMMU, Dec 29: The suspended Jammu-Udhampur DMU rail service will be resumed from December 31.
A decision in this regard has been taken by the Railway authorities in view of the protests by the locals of Udhampur, who were demanding resumption of the service since it was suspended on December 25.
The Excelsior had highlighted the issue and concern of people while Rajya Sabha Member Dr Farooq Abdullah had also taken up the matter with the Railway Minister Piyush Goyal for resumption of the service.
The rail service was suspended till March 5, 2019 to facilitate “Mahakumbh” from January 15 to March 5 in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Railway authorities, the suspended DMU service will be restored from Monday. The service will operate as per scheduled chart on Pathankot-Jammu-Udhampur route, which has five halts from Udhampur to Jammu and vice versa, they said.
The DMU facility, flagged off by the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in April 2005, was of great relief for the Government employees, students and labourers.
