Sukhnandan reviews status of Kandi Canal project

JAMMU, July 5: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sukhnandan Kumar today convened a meeting of officers of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department to review the status of construction of Kandi Canal project in tehsil Thathri of district Doda which was approved by Central Water Commission under Major/Medium irrigation scheme in the year 2006-2007 at an estimated cost of Rs. 5370.00 lakh.
During the meeting, the minister was appraised about the problems faced by the executive agencies during the construction of project and its present status. He was appraised about the decisions taken by last SLCC meeting held in July 2013.
The Minister said that work on construction of the canal was taken up in hand in 2007 and after the construction of only 500 meters of the canal the work was abandoned by the executive agencies due to financial concurrence and he directed the Department  to resume the same as per norms. He said that the hopes of the people for last 30 years for the construction of the canal to irrigate their land would be fulfilled.
Commissioner Secretary PHE Parvez Malik, Chief Engineer PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control and other senior officers of concerned departments were present in the meeting.
