Subash Nagar, Shiv Nagar, Ramzanpura roads become death traps

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 6: The residents of Subash Nagar and Shiv Nagar have expressed their deep concern over the failure of the ERA and PWD authorities to restore the Rehari Tope Sherkhania road and link road to Upper Shiv Nagar which was dug in March this year for laying of sewerage pipes.
A delegation of people that visited Excelsior today said that the two roads have been dug in the March to lay sewerage pipes by ERA and till date they were not repaired resulting into lot of inconvenience to the people.
They said people face lot of problem in moving over these roads as they have totally become death traps especially for old and infirm people. Despite the repeated pleas to the concerned authorities no steps were taken to renovate the two roads and the vehicles passing over these roads often face the problem skidding especially during rains when the roads are slippery due accumulated muck over them.
In an appeal to the authorities of ERA the residents have demanded immediate repairing of the two roads so that the people are relieved of the problems.
Same problem is being witnessed by the people of Ramzanpura Janipura where the failure of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) authorities to remove the garbage and filth from drains has led to water logging in the Monsoon season. According to Mohammed Irfan a social activist the situation becomes critical during a rainy day as entire water and muck gets accumulated on the road and enters into the residential houses adjoining the road. The Monsoon rains create havoc in the area as people have to cross from one feet deep water to reach their home during the rainy days, he added.
The road is also in dilapidated condition as it has been damaged by the pressure of water at different places, said Irfan.
He said the people are fed up and despite their pleas no one from the administration bothers to solve the problem.
