SRINAGAR, Sept 6: Despite the directions from the court in restraining the holding of National Thang Tha Championship the 19th edition of the tournament got off to a start here today at the Indoor Sports Stadium. The tournament was inaugurated by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ali Mohammad Sagar.
In his order on August 31, Munsiff Tral, Faizan-ul-Haq Iqbal had directed that the national championship should not be organized since the Jammu and Kashmir Thang Tha Association (JKTTA) has been mired in a controversy. The judge passed the order after some founder members of the JKTTA challenged the holding of national tourney saying that the JKTTA has been hijacked by some persons.
“From the circumstances projected by the applicants, the matter appears to be of emergent nature and as such the requirement of prior notice under order 39 Rule 3 CPC is dispensed with. It is also made out at this stage that the applicants have a prima facie case; the balance of convenience also tilts in their favour. It is also made out at this stage that if the relief prayed for in the application is not allowed, the applicants suffer an irreparable loss,” said the judge in his order.
Issuing notice to the defendants (non-applicants) for filing of objections and appearance, the judge said that in the meanwhile the non-applicants are temporarily restrained from conducting any activity including 19th National Championship under the name and banner of Jammu and Kashmir Thang Tha Association.
Meanwhile, some of the executive members who have revolted against JKTTA President along with some Thang Tha players today carried out a protest demonstration here. They demanded immediate halt to the activities of association and said that the association has been defamed due to the alleged wrong activities of Geelani and his team.
In the meantime, Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Rural Development Minister, Ali Mohammad Sagar inaugurated the championship at the Indoor Stadium. Twenty three States are taking part in the Championship that is going to culminate on September 9.
In his speech, Sagar said that sports activities are important for the overall development of a personality. He said “it is the endeavor of the Government to promote the sports related activities and build requisite infrastructure for the purpose.”
