LEH, May 24: Students from various educational institutions here today organised a rally under the name ‘Friday for Future’ to spread awareness about environment protection.
The rally started from NDS Ground and after passing through different areas culminated at Main Bazar, Leh.
The rally was to demand separate post of Executive Councillor in LAHDC to take care of Ladakh environment.
Heads of various organisations spoke on the occasion with president of Student Organisation of United Ladakh, Rigzin Dorjay saying that Ladakhi students were forced to take to streets to urge policymakers to seriously do something for environment preservation.
President Ladakh Drayangs Konchok Namdol requested Ladakhi people not to throw garbage everywhere and informed that similar rallies are being held in 27 countries on Friday to urge world leaders to unite for clean environment.
Students also urged for promotion of ecotourism and restricting to limited number of tourists besides suggesting several other measures to protect environment.
After the culmination of the rally a memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Leh for environmental protection.
Some non-Ladakhis including foreigners also took part in the rally.
