JAMMU, Dec 5: Dogra Saddar Sabha (DSS), J&K has demanded launch of exclusive Duggar Channel from Jammu for specially projecting Dogri, Urdu, Pahari, Gojri languages of the region.
Addressing a press conference here today, Dogra Saddar Sabha president and former Minister Gulchain Singh Charak strongly pleaded for starting an exclusive Duggar Channel from Doordrshan Kendra, Jammu. He pointed out that launch of this channel will ensure coverage of over 32,200 sq km area of Jammu region which is much more than area of Kashmir region ( 22,200 sq km).
Mr Charak pointed out that Dogri language stands already included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution, moreover, this Duggar Channel will air programmes in Dogri, Gojri Bhaderwahi, Kishtwari, Punjabi, Pahari, Mirpuri, Urdu and Kashmiri languages and this will not only have its viewers in the State but also in the adjoining State of Himachal and Punjab and parts of Pakistan and PoK. The Dogra leader further demanded that Jammu Doordarshan Channel should be aired direct to home through Satellite and for that purpose programmes generating facility and OB Van be provided.
Alleging discrimination with the Jammu region, the DSS leader pointed out that Jammu DDK allocated a budget of just Rs 2 crore while in Kashmir it may go from Rs 70 to 90 crore. He demanded that a balance be maintained between both the regions on the allocation of funds. He further demanded that nearly fifty odd casual labourers engaged in the DDK Jammu be treated at par with the temporary employees as they are working for the last over 20 years.
Mr Charak said that recently he along with a group of Doordarshan approved artists met the Union I&B Minister Munish Tiwari in Delhi and brought these issues to his notice. The Minister was highly convinced and agreed to resolve these issues. He said that response of the Union Minister was very positive.
