JAMMU, Dec 5: Maintaining that the Government has undertaken several welfare programmes for ensuring sustained development of the rural and far flung areas, the Minister of State for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Aijaz Ahmad Khan has called upon the people to come forward and avail benefit from these schemes for transformation of their socio-economic lot.
Addressing a public meeting at Gool-Arnas, the Minister said that the Coalition Government has ensured the all- round development of all the regions of the state on equitable basis, without giving preferential treatment to any particular area. He said that the special thrust has been given by the Goverment to upgrade the infrastructural capacities of various priority sectors, like health, education, road connectivity for the benefits of the people
Mr. Aijaz said that the successful conduct of Panchayat election in the State was aimed at decentralizing governance and brining it at the doorstep of people. He said subsequent to these elections funds, functions and functionaries were transferred to Panchayats, adding that so far functions of 14 departments have been transferred to Panchayats for their efficient management. He asked people to strengthen Panchayati Raj system so that democracy takes roots at grass root level.
Responding to the demands of the locals, the Minister announced 15 transformers for the area and augmentation of electricity distribution in the area. He also directed speeding up of works on water supply schemes and road connectivity project in the area.
