SRINAGAR, Feb 29: Bringing laurels to her parents, as well as to J&K, a girl from old city Srinagar has secured first position in Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU) Bachelors in Commerce program held on all India-level.
Hailing from Rainawari area of Srinagar, Mir Barieq Manzoor has surfaced at the top in the program. The achievement has fetched her gold medal along with a certificate of excellence issued from the University.
Deliberating on studies, she said that she did not take the studies too seriously and trusted the Almighty by doing her bit.
“It was not that serious study; I used to study for two hours a day and had not taken the exam that seriously. I had not access to internet and I had no access to my teachers, but still I did this” she said.
With a sense that she must help the people of Kashmir in whatever way she can, Barieq said that she is planning to go for Civil Services in future.
“I want to cater to the basic needs of people living in Kashmir and for that the administration is the best option-in my future plans, I am planning to go for civil services,” she said.
Further, she is also willing to work in order to address the issue of unemployment in Kashmir by starting a business venture in times to come.
“Apart from this, I also want to establish something of my own, where I can play my part in addressing the issue of unemployment in Kashmir,” she said.
She said that the credit to her success goes to Almighty. “Moreover, my parents have been supportive. They have always acted as my friends and teachers,” she said.
Explaining what she believes in, she said that the girls can achieve whatever they want and that their gender cannot act as a barrier in the way of their success.
“Hardships and struggles are part and parcel of one’s life and one has to face them come what may. Girls can be sons of their parents; they can touch the excellence and for that to achieve, one does not have to be a boy,” she said.
Her jubilant mother-whose eyes reflected a storm of joy within her-said that she feels proud about the success of her daughter, who has proved to be her son.
“I always had this thing in my mind that I don’t have a son, but her success has proved the otherwise. My girls have proven that I have got two sons,” she added.
