Sr Advocate B S Slathia passes away

JAMMU, June 27: Senior Advocate and former President of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association Jammu B S Slathia passed away at PGI Chandigarh early this morning.
He is survived by wife, two daughters and a son.
He was undergoing treatment for an ailment in PGI Chandigarh for the past several days and breathed his last this morning. His body will reach Jammu early morning tomorrow and cremation will take place at Jogi Gate Cremation Ground at 4 pm.
Known for his pro-Jammu stand, Slathia led various agitations and was one of the prominent faces leading the 2018 Amarnath land row agitation. He remained President of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association Jammu thrice.

The news about his demise came as a shock to the lawyers’ fraternity and other sections of the society and condolences started pouring in from many renowned personalities from the fraternities of lawyers, politicians, societies, academicians and educationists.
Slathia, a native of Gurha Slathia area, started practice as a lawyer in Samba district court and later he shifted to Jammu and established his identity as a known voice of the lawyers and public in general.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, in a condolence message, said, “I am deeply saddened by the sad demise of Slathia, a leading lawyer from Jammu”, adding “he was a strong and vocal proponent for the development of Jammu region”.
Azad expressed deepest sympathies to his near and dear ones and prayed to Almighty to give strength and courage to his family in this sad moment. He also prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu also condoled the demise of Slathia and described him as a prominent public figure who would always be remembered for his services to the legal fraternity.
Lt Governor has prayed for peace to the departed soul and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family members.
