SRINAGAR, Oct 21: Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh, Speaker Legislative Assembly, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at Raj Bhavan today.
The Governor and Dr Singh discussed the overall situation obtaining in Jammu & Kashmir and the steps required to be taken for ensuring rapid socio-economic development of the State. Besides, the step needed to be taken to strengthen the institutions of local self-Government were also discussed.
Vijay Dhar, Member of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board also called on Governor and discussed several matters relating to the functioning of the Board, besides, the facilities made available for the yatris.
Dhar also briefed the Governor about several pressing issues relating to the advancement of school education in the State.
Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi, Chairman of Selection-cum-Oversight Committee under the Juvenile Justice Act also called on Governor and apprised him about the overall functioning of the Act in the State including the various bodies constituted under the Act viz. Juvenile Justice Boards, Child Welfare Committees and District Children Protection Units. He also shared some of the concerns regarding their functioning.
Keeping in view the sensitivity of the subject involved, the Governor urged Justice Masoodi to continue sustained efforts for improvement in the implementation of the Act which is a welfare legislation for securing the interest of the children in conflict with law and those who are in need of care and protection.
G M Shah (Shaheen), President Janata Dal (United) also met Governor and briefed him about the prevailing situation in the state and apprised him of the difficulties being faced by the people.
The Governor urged him to continue to promote people’s welfare, besides, ensuring that the institutions of local self Government get strengthened.
