JAMMU, Feb 28: A seminar on career guidance and educational opportunities for youth was organized by young IPS officer  Sandeep Chaudhary – SP South,  Jammu, here today.
The seminar was attended by students from various streams of studies.  SP South informed the students in detail about various career and educational opportunities available to them during graduation and after graduation.
The young IPS  emphasised on the importance of exposure for the students. “Most of the competitive exams for jobs and admission to institutes of higher education are conducted in a very merit-based system. The students coming from rural background face difficulty in these exams due to the lack of exposure.
They have to compete with students from elite backgrounds of good schooling and famous colleges. The only way to get through tough exams for students from humble backgrounds is to prepare themselves with hard work and dedication,” he explained  and suggested  the tools for exposure preparation, like  internet,  easy availability of knowledge through Youtube lectures, different open source websites, travel, books, magazines, movies, seminars etc.
“Students from Jammu can use their smartphones and internet to travel the places through virtual means even when they can not afford to actually travel to such places,” Sandeep Chaudhary said and also suggested  travel documentaries produced by Rick Steves that are available on Youtube for free.
The career guidance part of the seminar focused on preparation for UPSC, SSC, Assistant Commandant Exam, Bank PO exam, NABARD and RBI grade-A and grade-B exams. A detailed discussion about understanding the syllabus of these exams was done. The importance of English as a global language and its vitality in cultivating a career was also discussed. The admission procedure for institutes like JNU, IIMs and Indian Statistical Institute was also discussed.
Scholarships like Inlaks, Commonwealth, Fulbright, Chevening and Daad are available for Indian students to carry on their education in foreign universities. More details about them can be obtained from website of Ministry of Human Resources and Development.  The SP further stated that young students are like soil and it is responsibility of the elders of the society to shape them in a beautiful manner so that they can lead a life of dignity and honour.
