JAMMU, Feb 28: In a significant development, Search Committee for the Vice-Chancellor of Kashmir University has been assigned the additional task of looking for new Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University also as the tenure of incumbent Prof R D Sharma is ending next month.
According to the reliable sources, Governor N N Vohra, who is Chancellor of both the Universities, has formally told the already existing Screening Committee to search for new VC of Jammu University.
An official communiqué in this regard was issued by the Raj Bhawan, last evening after a decision in this regard was also verbally conveyed to Prof R D Sharma, who called on the Governor here yesterday.
Pertinent to mention that a Screening Committee for the appointment of Kashmir University’s new VC was already constituted in September last as tenure of incumbent Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi was ending in October last.
This Search Committee is headed by Prof D P Aggarwal, former Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and a Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Other member of the Search Committee include Prof. Seyed Ehtesham Hasnain, the current VC of the Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi and Prof Vijay Gupta, the Vice-Chancellor of Sharda University, Noida.
It may be recalled that Prof R D Sharma was initially given the charge of VC on October 31, 2014 following sudden resignation of Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar as then Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University. Since Prof Ishar relinquished the charge of VC around three months prior to completion of his tenure, Prof R D Sharma was asked to carry out the duties of JU VC till new appointment for the top post was made.
Later, he was confirmed as the full fledged Vice-Chancellor on March 13, 2015 for tenure of three years after screening by the Search Committee and the Chancellor’s nod for the same.
According to the sources, the Search Committee is likely to invite applications from the aspirants, who will be invited for interview after a screening. The shortlisted panel of three most suitable candidates will be then submitted to the Governor for selection of the person as new VC of Jammu University.
