Sonia elected leader of Cong Parliamentary party

 

NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi was today elected the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party and will decide on the leader of the Party in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

At a meeting of the CPP held here this evening, Ms Gandhi was unanimously elected leader of the Congress Party in Parliament, AICC General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi told reporters here.

At a meeting of the newly elected Lok Sabha MPs and Congress Rajya Sabha members, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge proposed name of Ms Gandhi as Chairperson which was seconded by Mrs Mohsina Kidwai and Assam MP Dhirender Singh.

“Her name was unanimously approved as CPP chairperson by the MPs,”Mr Dwivedi said.

Under the party constitution, the CPP chairperson is auhorised to take a decision on the party leaders in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
