Smuggling of medicinal plants foiled in Ganderbal

SRINAGAR, Oct 1: Police today said to have foiled a smuggling bid by arresting a smuggler along with 450 Kgs of forest produce medicinal plants in Ganderbal. Besides, Police in Bandipora also carried out an extensive drive to destroy wild cannabis in the Aloosa area.
In Ganderbal, a Police party of Police Station Gund under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Yasir Qadri established a checkpoint following credible information regarding smuggling of forest produce medicinal plants at Surfraw Gund area of Ganderbal and intercepted a vehicle (Maruti Van) bearing registration number JK02AN-3855 with one person on board.
“He has been identified as Asif Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Surfraw Gund,” police said.
During checking, officers recovered 450 Kgs of Minor Forest Produce including Kuth (Costus), Podophyllum and Picrorhiza from his possession.
“He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” police said.
In this regard, a case vide FIR number 42/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Gund and an investigation has been initiated.
Similarly, in Bandipora, a Police team from Police Post Aloosa under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Bandipora Mohammad Idrees along with the officers from the Revenue Department destroyed wild cannabis spread over 30 Kanals of land in Trimukhan and Bamsi forest areas of Aloosa.
