SKUAST -Jammu distributes higher productivity wheat seeds

JAMMU, Nov 24: In connection with Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, Agrometeorology Section of SKUAST-Jammu today distributed higher productivity wheat seeds among farmers during one-day awareness programme at Fatehpur Slaharian in R S Pura.
The programme was organized under the aegis of SKUAST-J Vice-Chancellor Prof J P Sharma and guidance of Dr Jag Paul Sharma, Director Research cum Registrar of SKUAST-Jammu .
On the occasion, wheat variety (HD-1080) was distributed among the local farmers for higher productivity and enhancement in their agricultural income.
The programme under SC-SP head of NICRA, was preceded by Dr Mahender Singh, Sr Scientist and Incharge AICRPAM, who discussed in detail about weather based agriculture operation in rabi crops.
Prof Jag Paul Sharma, Director Research cum Registrar, who was chief guest of the occasion, encouraged the farmers for timely sowing of rabi crops in the area and stressed them to take maximum benefits from the forecast services provided by NICRA-AICRPAM Project which will ultimately enhance the income of poor and marginal farmers of the area.
Dr V B Singh, Sr Scientist, Plant Pathology, emphasized on the weather based disease management in rabi crops. Dr Jai Kumar, Jr Scientist (Agronomy) ACRA, Dhiansar, focused on use of natural resources for better management of rabi crops in the area. Dr Rohit Sharma, Technical officer, AMFU – Rajouri, gave detailed information on the use of weather based agro-advisories in day to day agriculture operations.
Dr Charu Sharma interacted with the farmers and she emphasized upon farming community to adopt improved/modern technologies like agro-advisories services and soil health card for optimum use of fertilizer dose in rabi crops of the area. Yusra Mukhtiar, Ph D Entomology provided the information to the farmers regarding weather based insect pest management in rabi crops.
Sakshi Choudhary, Sarpanch, Langeral and Panch Surinder Singh, Fatehpur Slaharian, R S Pura, Jammu also participated in the programme. Dr Monika Banotra, SRF, FASAL Project presented the vote of thanks.
