JAMMU, June 2: J&K Sikh Societies Amalgamate in its meeting of Executive members has demanded immediate formation of Minority Commission in the State by amending NC Act 192 to make the act applicable to J&K and enact a law for the promulgation of J&K Minorities Act along the lines of Model Act developed by National Commission on Minorities (NCM).
The Amalgamate meeting which was chaired by its chief patron Gurdeep Singh Sasan also demanded enactment of Anand Karaj Act for registration of Sikhs marriage under this Act, constitution of J&K Welfare and Development Board for the PoK refugees/ displaced persons to settle their long pending demands.
Sasan also urged the State Government to exert pressure on Union Government asking it to release financial package of Rs 25 lakh to per displaced family as recommended by previous government headed by Omar Abdullah.
He criticized the State BJP leadership for not taking serious steps in mitigating the refugees’ problems.
The meeting urged the Union Government to immediately release funds for development and modernization of refugees bastis, formation of minority Financial Corporation on pattern of SC /ST Corporation for settlement of refugees problems, declaration of transport as industry, giving sufficient representation to Sikhs in PSC, SSRB, judiciary and other statutory bodies, scholarships to poor students, reservation in professional colleges and launching of special recruitment drive.
