SHRC takes Suo-Moto congnizance in assault by Gow Rakshaks

JAMMU, Apr 24: Judicial Member of State Human Right Commission Jang Bahadur Singh Jamwal took suo-moto cognizance of news item regarding “5 injured including a girl child and one missing in an assault by Gow Rakshaks,” and directed DGP J&K and SSP Reasi to file report within 10 days from today.
While taking cognizance, Member SHRC observed that in the item published, the news carried the facts that in District Reasi Gow rakshaks, a vernacular name given to a village group seeking the protection of cows had committed an assault in which 5 people got injured including a girl child and one child of 10 years age got missing, due to which tension prevailed in the area.
The Gujjars, a tribal group has blocked highway on Reasi- Pouni road. The police have registered a case of missing and started investigation into the matter. One Miss Naseem Begum has told reporters that on intervening night of Thursday and Friday, when they were moving along with their family members to some place; some miscreants has leveled allegation of bovine smuggling against them and attacked them. DIG Udhampur Reasi Range reached on spot and took information of the matter. The injured got admitted into the Pouni hospital; from where they got shifted to GMC Jammu for further treatment.
SHRC held that Prima facie; it is a clear cut case of glaring Human Rights violation. The Bench Presided over by Jang Bahadur Singh Jamwal Member J&K State Human Rights Commission took serious note of the same and has taken “Suo- Moto” cognizance to seek the full and factual picture of the incident and directed DGP and SSP to file report.
