MENDHAR, Nov 12: Despite the claims of the Government in general and concerned authorities in particular of taking strict action against encroachers, the footpaths in the main town of Mendhar has been allegedly being illegally occupied by the shopkeepers.
According to locals, the concerned authorities seem to be in slumber, as no action has been taken against the encroachers, who had occupied almost half of the footpath, causing inconvenience to the general public.
“Footpaths have been completely encroached by shopkeepers, but the concerned administration is not doing anything in this regard,” said a local, adding that several vendors from outside the State too, are mushrooming in Mendhar without any fear of authorities.
The locals maintained that the concerned authorities allow vendors to sell their merchandise on the foot paths, which results in choking and jamming of the lanes/ by-lanes and also main market.
“Several shopkeepers and vendors display the items on road and footpaths and due to encroachment on footpaths, the main Bazaar is fully occupied and no space is left for pedestrians,” they added.
