JAMMU, July 2: A major tragedy was averted when the local shopkeepers in the busy Shalamar market helped douse a fire by using the fire extinguishers present in their shops.
As per police sources, a power transformer outside a bank branch at the busy Shalamar market caught fire due to short-circuit and soon it was into flames.
The local shopkeepers took out their fire extinguishers to douse the fire before it could spread to other areas.
Before the fire service vehicles could reach the area the fire was brought under control by the shopkeepers.
No injury or casualty or any kind of damage has been reported in the incident.
Police has taken cognizance in this regard.
