Senior Citizens’ Council discusses peace, civil rights

DODA, Aug 29: In a fight against social evils and to create awareness among the masses especially among youth of the district regarding different social evils like drug menace, obscenity and other social evils, a meeting of Senior Citizens Council Doda was organized by President SCC Dr. Sajad Hussain Kriapak and General Secretary SCC Dr. Aijaz Kariem at Town Hall here today .
District Development Commissioner Doda Shyam Vinod Meena was the guest of honour on the occasion and Mohd. Ashraf Zargar chaired the function.
While addressing the senior citizens, DDC Doda said that senior citizens are our elders who have served the nation for long period and their experience and guidance help youth to fight against social evils. He said senior citizens being the cream of the nation and their good wishes and prayers will take the younger generation at the climax of success.
Among others who spoke on the occasion include, Farid Ahmed Faridi who threw light over the importance of senior citizens in society and their responsibilities towards social upliftment of society. He also apprised the gathering about the facilities and benefits provided by the central government in railway fares, hospitals, banks and income tax rebate.
Shoukat Ahmed Mughal and Abdul Rehman Wani , Dr. Sajjad Hussain Kriapak and Dr. Aijaz Kariem gave in depth information to the participants about the aims and objectives of the council, demands and difficulties being faced by the senior citizens . They also apprised about the responsibilities of senior citizens in maintaining communal harmony and also deliberated over their role in guiding youth to fight against drug menace, obscenity and other social evils.
The function ended with vote of thanks by General Secretary Dr. Ajaz Kariem.
