Seminar on ‘Exploring Cultural History of Jammu & Ladakh’ begins

JAMMU, Oct 3: Two day national seminar on “Exploring Cultural History of Jammu and Ladakh”, organized by Centre For History And Culture Of Jammu And Ladakh Region, University of Jammu in collaboration with Indian Council of Historical Research, JU, began today at the directorate of Distance Education, JU.
The seminar was inaugurated by Prof Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu whereas Prof Desh Bandhu, Dean Academic Affairs, JU, presided over the function.
Prof Aima, in his address, stressed on developing the appropriate lines of communication across the cultures of the State. Referring to Ladakh, he added, “God abodes in every particle. We should not differentiate God. The plurality of the cultural ethos of J&K State is to be preserved and revisited in totality.”
Prof Desh Bandhu, Dean Academic Affairs, JU, in his presidential remarks, talked of cultural characteristics of both the regions of the State and emphasized the need for research on the changing contours of culture in today’s context.
Prof S C Mittal, former Head of the Department (History) Kurushetra University, presented the keynote address of the seminar tracing the history of J & K from Sikandar upto 1965 and even up to today. He illuminated the ideas glorifying the valour of people of Jammu and Ladakh.
Prof Chattopadhyay, former Head, Dept of Ancient History Culture Archaeology, University of Allahabad, made a PowerPoint presentation on Jammu and Ladakh as a crucial crossroad of Indian Sub-continent, which serves as a niche of rich cultural heritage of the State.
Earlier, Prof Anita Billawaria, Director, Centre For History And Culture Of Jammu And Ladakh Region, JU, and chairperson, outlined the objectives and significance of holding this event.
Around 80 participants of Sciences, Social Sciences and Languages departments from within and outside the State, NSS volunteers, DDE student are participating in the seminar.
On the occasion, the souvenir was also released by the dignitaries. Dr. Sharda Sharma proposed the formal vote of thanks. Dr Hina S Abrol conducted the proceedings.
