Season’s first snowfall in hills

Srinagar, Sept 15: The higher reaches of Kashmir valley experienced the season’s first snowfall today making people in the Valley to shiver.

The higher reaches of the Valley, including Zojila pass, Drass and Minamarg, on Srinagar -Leh highway received fresh spell of light snowfall this morning. The 434-km long Srinagar-Leh highway was open for traffic despite the mild snowfall.
Heavy rains also lashed Kashmir valley and hail storm in parts of Valley caused damage to the crops. The heavy rains also caused water logging in some areas of Srinagar.
The snowfall and rains led to drop in the temperatures as chilly winds were blowing across the Valley. People were forced to pull out wollens from the ward robes.
In the meantime, dozens of livestock were killed today after lightning struck upper reaches of Uri sector in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
At least 100 sheep of two families were killed after the lightning struck in Kalgie village, 10 kilometers from town Uri, this evening.
