SAMBA, Sept 15: District administration today formally handed over encumbrance free land for setting up of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to the Health and Medical Education Department for its further transfer to the Central Public Works Department, which is the project execution agency.
The land transfer process was completed at the AIIMS site by the Deputy Commissioner Sushma Chauhan, who had earlier communicated to the Principal Secretary Health and Medical Education Department in this regard.
It is pertinent to mention here that State Government had tasked the Samba administration to facilitate early start of the work on the prestigious project.
“The arduous task of clearing the proposed AIIMS site at Vijaypur of encumbrances and rehabilitation of nomadic families at the proposed designated site has been completed successfully and peacefully “, Sushma Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner Samba said, adding “the task was taken up on mission mode with effect from July 20, 2018 and the same got concluded due to complete confidence and support of higher authorities and dedication of team of officers”.
A total of 1954 kanals and 6 marlas of land has been acquired for establishment of AIIMS. Of this, 747 kanals of land is on the northern side——left side of Jammu-Pathankot National Highway and 1207 kanals and 6 marlas on southern side— right side of the highway. The construction of AIIMS boundary wall is already underway.
The work on the boundary wall on the northern side has been completed up to 710 mtrs and on the southern side it has been completed up to 1800 mtrs.
The challenge before the district administration was that of rehabilitation and peaceful resettlement of the nomadic families. As the rehabilitation of displaced nomadic families has almost been completed, the district administration Samba is focusing on providing basic facilities to the resettled families at the new site.
The land was formally handed over to officials of Health department in presence of Dr Arun Manhas, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Vijay Kumar, Sub Divisional Magistrate Vijaypur, Nodal Officer AIIMS, CMO Samba, Executive Engineer CPWD, Tehsildar Vijaypur and other revenue and CPWD officials.
The Deputy Commissioner particularly lauded the efforts of ADC Samba; SDM, Vijaypur and all the revenue officers involved in the process of clearing the bottlenecks in the project.
