Screening camp for cervical, breast cancers conducted

SAMBA, Jan 11: A cervical cancer and breast cancer screening camp was organized today at CHC Ramgarh.
The camp was organized by Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Section under the expert supervision of Directorate of Health Services, Jammu. The camp was inaugurated by CMO Samba, Dr Rajinder Samyal along with J&K Nodal officer NCD, Dr Sumir Kaul.
The screening tests involved breast examination and VIAA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) method which comes under population based screening programme where common masses are being screened for hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Forty ASHAs were screened in the camp and out of them five cases were found positive. They were referred to Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu for Cystoscopy and further management.
On the occasion, training were imparted to gynecologists and medical officers of the Block by Dr Samita Bhat (Gynae Cancer Surgeon, Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar) and these gynecologists and medical officers will further screen the common masses in their respective zones.
The camp ended with screening of blood pressure and blood sugar screening of the common masses.
Cervical Cancer is the second most common cancer found in Indian women. The current estimates indicate 67, 500 deaths annually in India which accounts to nearly 1/5th of global cervical cancer deaths.
