JAMMU, Mar 28: In the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, Yogesh Sawhney, former Minister and General Secretary JKPCC (In -charge Jammu Urban), urged people to maintain calm and strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the Government in this regard.
Stating that people need to survive through this 21 day nationwide lockdown by staying inside and safe, Sawhney also strongly urged the local and Central Government to look at the problems being caused by this lockdown and address these issues in the Union Territory of J&K. There is chaos and hunger among the less privileged people and poor people are at risk of starvation, he added.
Sawhney said that nearly 600 people were stranded at the Jammu and Kashmir shelters. “There are nearly 250 to 300 people who had come to visit the holy Vaishno Devi shrine from different States, mainly Bihar and UP. Among them are also nearly 300 labourers. These people require special attention and facilities,” he said and appreciated the NGOs and other organisations coming forward to help out these people stranded in Jammu due to lockdown.
“The administration needs to facilitate provision of food and essential services for the daily wagers, the homeless and the others who are worst hit by this lockdown,” he said and stressed that the Government must ensure that the food supplies are maintained and the population does not become vulnerable to the risk of secondary infections due to malnutrition on account of short supply of food.
