SRINAGAR, Apr 22: Adi Ashtkam event was held at Tagore Hall here for the first time in Kashmir on the eve of Shankara Jayanti.
The event was organised by Save Sharda Committee Kashmir (SSCK) in collaboration with J&K State Academy of Culture & Usha RK Foundation of Bangalore. The event based on eight verses of Adi Shankaracharya, one of the greatest saints and philosophers who promoted Advait philosophy in Kashmir and set up four mutts in four directions of India.
The event was presided over by Akshay Labroo, Dy Commissioner, Srinagar and guest of honour was Dr. GV Sundeep SSP Srinagar. Other dignitaries included Principal Secretary, Department of Culture, Additional Secretary, Dharmarth Trust, political leaders Sanjay Saraf, Dileep Pandita, Vijay Dhar of DPS Srinagar, Khawaja Iftikhar of Karnah, Prof Meena Sharma of DU, and others.
Ravinder Pandita, while welcoming the audience and guests stressed need of setting up of Sharda University & exploring Sharda civilization while paying reverence to Jagatguru Adi Shankaracharya.
He highlighted the teachings of Adi Shankaracharya and also threw light on religious and cultural significance of world famous Sharda Shrine which is now in ruins in PoK. Once the grandeur of yore this shrine which housed an University during medieval period and represented the world’s richest culture and civilization is now in shambles.
He said Teetwal on LoC in Karnah sector which used to be the Chari route of the famous shrine was a business hub of the area but it lost its sheen after partition as a sizeable area was occupied by Pakistan.
Pandita said that his organisation has now constructed temple and Gurdwara at Teetwal to revive pilgrimage tourism to the area and boost the economy of the people.
