Sapolia, Reshi get Sahitya Akademi Award

JAMMU, Dec 18:  Sita Ram Sapolia and Mohi-ud-Din Reshi have been honoured with 2013-Sahitya Akademi Award for their creative works in Dogri and Kashmiri respectively.
The national awards for literature for 2013 in 22 languages of the country were announced by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, today. The award to be presented on March 11, 2014 at New  Delhi carries a cash award of Rs 1 lakh, a shawl and an engraved copper plaque. Selected in the category of famous poets, Sita Ram Sapolia got the national honour for his anthology of Dogri poetry titled ‘Doha Satsai’.
Born in 1938, Sapolia, a native of village Diani, Samba, has retired as senior lecturer from J&K Education Department. A prolific Dogri poet and writer who wields pen in writing short stories and different genre of poetry including doha, geet, bhajans, Sapolia has already nine books to his credit.
Mohi-ud-Din Reshi, awarded for his collection of short stories in Kashmiri titled ‘Aina Aatish (Bitter Reflections). Born in 1951, Resho who lives Reshi in Srinagar has worked as assistant editor in the Information Department, Govt. of J&K. Many of short stories have been translated and published in different national and international languages. One of his short story ‘Nakh'[Pall-Bearing] has been included in the Text Book of 10th Standard by J&K Board of Secondary Education.
This year’s Sahitya Akademi award for Urdu has been bestowed upon Javed Akhtar for his collection of poetry ‘Lava’ while in Punjbai language the award has gone to Manmohan for his novel ‘Nirvaan’.
