JAMMU, Jan 31: Culture and traditions of Ladakh region were displayed through impressive dance and folk song items as Student Association of Ladakh Jammu (SAOLJ) celebrated its annual day function, here today.
The colourful function was organized in association with Friends of Ladakh and Centre for History & Culture of Jammu and Ladakh Regions.
Former Minister and MLA Leh, Nawang Rigzin Jora was chief guest on the occasion while Rehana Batool, Additional Divisional Commissioner Jammu was the guest of honour. Prof Anita Billawaria, Director Centre for History and Culture of Jammu and Ladakh Regions was the special guest while Saif-ud-Din of Moin-ul-Islam was also present on the occasion.
During the colourful cultural programme, there was display of culture by a gamut of fresh talent that emphasized the need for communal harmony for future progress. Meritorious students of Ladakh, who have qualified different competitive exams, were also honoured on the occasion.
In his address, Mr Jora said that such celebrations immensely help in preserving the rich cultural heritage of a particular region besides giving exposure to the talent of the students. Such functions are a perfect platform for showcasing and thus preserving our culture and traditions, he said.
Rehana Batool highlighted the importance of unity and cultural harmony. She advised the students to work hard and achieve their goals in life.
On the occasion, SAOLJ presented a charter of demands, which includes economization of airfare, opening of nodal cells of UPSC and JKPSC in Ladakh, enhancement of the intake capacity in different streams of Jammu University and Central University and also a provision about the documents which got missing in Kashmir floods.
The programme was organized under the leadership of Taira Abbas and Zulfiqar Ali.
