Srinagar, Apr 14: Sangnis under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) in J&K today alleged “large-scale irregularities” in the promotion of Supervisors, claiming that eligible candidates are being “sidelined in violation of norms.”
A number of ‘Sangnis’ assembled here to stage a protest, stating that the ongoing promotion process under the 25 per cent departmental quota for graduate Sangnis lacks transparency and fairness, with “blue-eyed” candidates being favoured.
They alleged that several candidates with “questionable academic credentials” are being considered for promotion, while experienced and eligible Sangnis with years of grassroots service are being ignored.
“This is a serious injustice, merit and eligibility are being overlooked, which is demoralising for those who have been working honestly in the field for years,” the protesting Sangnis said.
The aggrieved workers, who form the backbone of the ICDS system delivering welfare services to women and children, warned that such practices could undermine the credibility and functioning of the programme.
They demanded an immediate halt to the promotion process where eligibility criteria is under question, and called for a transparent, merit-based verification of all shortlisted candidates.
The Sangnis also sought an independent inquiry into the alleged irregularities and urged authorities to ensure strict adherence to Government norms in promotions.
