Srinagar, Aug 10: The Jammu & Kashmir RTI Movement (RTIM) today demanded a high-level enquiry into the construction of link roads in Baramulla town carried out last year during summer as the material used for the construction was of ‘sub-standard quality’.
RTI Movement has appealed J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to probe the instant case
“For the last 6 months one of our senior activists, Sirajudin Salam has been urging authorities to take action against the engineers of R&B division Baramulla for looting state exchequer as inferior quality material was used for link road construction (grade I, II and blacktopping) in Shalimar Colony Kanispora, Baramulla,” Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat Chairman RTI Movement said in a statement issued here.
He said that the District Adm assured to take action some months back, but nothing was done.
“Rs 96 lakhs were spent on construction of lanes and by-lanes and soon after the work was done the road got damaged as it developed potholes and cracks. Even the drains have developed cracks at several places,” he said.
The senior activist, Sirajudin Salam, who exposed the scam, said that the corrupt Engineers and Contractor took advantage of that hartal and curfew last year and used all the substandard material during the execution of work.
“The road and drains got damaged within 3 to 4 months only. We have obtained all the details under the RTI Act after a long wait of 6 months. The information was not provided in time (within 30 days). As we have no RTI commission in place,” he said.
