Digital Muharram rituals, discontinuation of congregation: Shia Federation

JAMMU, Aug 10: Shia Federation convened virtual meeting of Ulemas and various office bearers to discuss the observance of forthcoming holy month of Muharram.
Aashiq Hussain Khan a senior functionary of the organization in a statement issued here, today said the meeting was attended by Hujjat ul Islam Molana Mukhtayar Hussain Jaffri, Hujjat ul Islam Molana Karamat Hussain Jaffri, Hujjat ul Islam Molana Kausar Hussain Jaffri, Hujjat ul Islam Molana Zawar Hussain, Hujjat ul Islam Molana Abid Hussain, Sheikh Sajjad (senior vice president), Syed Fida Hussain Rizvi (chief spokesperson). The meeting discussed the observance of Muharram in the backdrop of present COVID Pandemic, he added.
He further said that as the virus gets transmitted aggressively during congregations of any type, procession and gatherings should be canceled and discontinued. Moreover, public health and safety should not be compromised at any cost, he added.
He said as suggested by Ayatollah ul Uzma Sayed Ali Khamene i- leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Ayatollah ul Uzma Sayyid Ali Sistani, “The holy month of Muharram is approaching and traditional commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain involves congregations of varying size. To avoid any super spreading events, respected Marja has wisely decided to refer the matter to experts and the Government with discontinuation of any sort of procession or gatherings, rather encourage and advised for Maraja Majalis and lectures that can be held without risk by taking advantage of the modern modes of communication like the internet, TV and social media.
