JAMMU, Sept 1: Romeo Force celebrated its 21st ‘Raising Day’ at its various units today.
For the past 20 years, Romeo Force has been one of the prime engines of Northern Command for attrition against terrorism and stability in the hinterland of the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. The Force was raised on September 01, 1999 at Dhanidhar Fort, Rajouri.
The short but glorious history of the Force has been a saga of unparalleled bravery, courage, sacrifices and unconditional devotion to duty by all ranks of the Force who have had the honour of serving in it.
The Force has achieved tremendous success in its endeavors to achieve peace and tranquility in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch. The Force has neutralised 1458 terrorists and recovered a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and warlike stores. The Nation has recognised this by conferring 1008 awards for Gallantry and distinguished service to include 01 Ashok Chakra and 04 Kirti Chakra. These achievements have, however, come at a great cost with 18 officers, 19 Junior Commissioned officers and 271 other ranks laying down their lives in service of the Nation.
Over the past year, the Force has continued its relentless counter insurgency operation by preventing infiltration across the fence on the Line of Control and ensuring peace in the region. Purposeful activities towards skill development, education and health care of local populace, Ex-servicemen and Veer Naris have contributed immensely towards building bonds and enhancing peace and prosperity in the region.
On this occasion, all ranks of the Force paid homage to the martyrs in a solemn ceremony conducted at the War Memorial at Romeo Force Headquarters.
Major General PS Bajwa, General Officer Commanding laid wreath at the memorial during the ceremony. The GOC, while addressing the officers, JCOs and soldiers of the force mentioned that our ancestors had worked hard to bring peace in the region.
