JAMMU, Sept 25: To commemorate the 97th birth anniversary of Bharatiya Jan Sangh President Late Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhaya Ji, a function was held at BJP headquarters here today.
BJP State president Shamsher Singh Manhas, alongwith other senior leaders, performed havan pooja and paid homage in the morning and later distributed pudding (halwa) and sweets among the party activists and the general public present on the occasion.
Shamsher Singh Manhas while speaking on the significance of the day, said that today is a very auspicious day for us as it reminds us about an ideologue like Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhaya, who was a very tall patriotic figure in the country. He said that after independence, when there was political uncertainty in the country as the Congress had majority in the Parliament and did whatever it deemed suitable rather than working for the development, welfare and security of the masses, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhaya gave very authentic and result oriented concept of major national issues.
