Revenue officials booked for preparing fake gift deed

JAMMU, Jan 16: The Vigilance Organization Kashmir has booked some Revenue officials of Bandipora for illegally helping an accused of disproportionate assets case by getting the latter avoid stamp duty and thus affecting losses to the State exchequer to the tune of Rs 1.75 lakh.
The illegal practice came into light during the verifications conducted by Vigilance Organization Kashmir into the allegations regarding acquisition of disproportionate assets by Javed Ahmad Shah, Jr Asstt, Municipal Committee Bandipora.
Investigations revealed that the officers/officials of Revenue Department Bandipora hatched conspiracy with Nazia Hassan, wife of Javed Ahmad Shah in the year 2010-11 and prepared a fraudulent gift deed whereby land measuring 1 kanal and 18 marlas purchased from one Gh Rasool Sheikh for an amount of Rs 29 lacs has been shown transferred by way of oral gift from one Ashmi, mother of Gh Rasool Sheikh to Nazia Hassan vide mutation number 348 dated 25.4.1999.
Whereas the fact of the matter was that the said Ashmi had died some 25 years ago.
The omissions and commissions on the part of the public servants attracts the offences punishable under Section 5(1) (c), (d) read with 5(2) PC Act 2006 and 120-B RPC, 420 RPC.
