JAMMU, Sept 11: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma today said that the Government agencies have started the restoration of damages caused to the public utilities in Jammu region in the backdrop of recent heavy rains and flash flood. He stated this while interacting with the Sarppanchs, Panchs, senior citizens and local public at Akhnoor.
The Minister also conducted an extensive tour of flood hit villages along with concerned officers including Sangrampur, Bamal, Devipur, Mehra, Muthi Mehra, Bandwal and Shetaral and other villages situated at the right bank of river Chenab and assess the losses of agriculture land which has been washed away due to recent flash flood . He directed the officers to ensure enhanced basic amenities to the people with focus on flood affected areas. He also instructed the Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control to restore all the damaged sites immediately and fill up the gaps with RBM and concrete crates. . He also received brief on the losses of various types of crops besides damage of houses and asked the concerned departments to submit reports to the higher authorities immediately.
He further stressed to place more men and machinery in to the service of the people to meet the challenges thrown by incessant rains. He also directed the flood control engineers and concerned authorities to arrange sufficient quantity stone crates available to meet out the requirement of the area.
The Minister informed that temporary restoration work has been started in the affected areas to avoid inconvenience to the public. He said that restoration works have been also taken upto restore roads, water and power supply, and other essential services in the affected areas.
Sham said that participation of the people and public representative Panchs and Sarpanchs was imperative for need based and development of their areas.
Among others, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control H. C. Jerath, Chief Engineer PWD (R&B), XEns and other senior officers were also accompanied the Minister.
