Residents suffering due to exorbitant rates of Ban toll plaza

REASI, July 14: The residents of Reasi as well as Jandrah Manwal area in District Jammu are suffering by the exorbitant rates of the Ban toll plaza.
This was stated by Advocate Pawan Dev Singh while interacting with media persons here today.
He further stated that though the people of Reasi use only a part of road but still they are charged full amount of toll at par with those going towards Srinagar.
“National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has issued passes to the people who are residing within 20 kilometers of the toll plaza and though the people residing in Katra has been issued pass and uses same length of road whereas the people going to Reasi have to pay full amount of toll”, he said, adding that the rules for charging of the toll tax also refers to the fact that the NHAI can charge toll for only section of the road which is used by the persons plying the vehicle.
He appealed to the Government to remove the discrimination with the people of Reasi and Jandrah Manwal by charging less toll from them as per the length of road used by them.
“The people are not averse to paying the toll tax but since the people of Katra who falls within 20 kilometer of the toll plaza are issued passes whereas the other residents who also uses the same road are discriminated and made to pay full toll tax and discrimination be not removed either by issuing passes or changing the toll tax as per the road used in kilometers”, he stated.
He appealed to the LG Administration to seek out the issue of toll plaza for the residents of Reasi within a period of three days otherwise he will launch a strong agitation.
