Residents protest against authorities, demand basic amenities

KISHTWAR, Apr 3: Residents supported by District Unit of BJP today lodged protest against local authorities for their failure to provide basic amenities to the residents of Kuleed village.
Demonstrators alleged that despite repeated requests no body responded to their miseries which forced them to come on roads.
One of the protesters Manoj Kumar said that work on road from their village to Zelana has been left halfway adding to the miseries. In the case of emergencies they have to face hardships, he said and demanded early start of the work of said road.
He added that due to apathetic attitude of Jal Shakti Department they are not getting regular drinking water supply and with the rise in temperature, the consumers of this village have to beg even for single drop of water.
Another youth of area Akshay said that hand pumps have been installed in their village but since last more than one and a half year they are non functional and no steps have been taken by concerned to repair the said pumps. He said that just near the Tourist Reception Kishtwar, an ancient Shiv Mandir is located where heaps of garbage is lying.
The demonstrators said that number of times they approached and raised issues with concerned officer but nothing happened on ground which forced them to come on roads. Protesters also blocked National Highway and raised slogans against local authorities.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders of District Kishtwar who also joined the protest said that besides launching several welfare schemes the Union Government is providing sufficient funds for development works including road connectivity, better drinking water facilities but due to irresponsible attitude of officers at the helm of affairs neither the benefits of these schemes is reaching masses nor the development works are being reflected on ground.
It was only after the assurance from ACR Kishtwar and officers of concerned departments, the demonstrators called off the protest and vehicular movement was allowed to ply as per routine.
