SRINAGAR, Aug 24: Farooq Renzu Shah, Chairman, Kashmir Society, called on N.N. Vohra, Governor, here at the Raj Bhavan .
Mr. Shah briefed the Governor about various initiatives taken by the Kashmir Society, which included arranging international and national seminars, workshops and interactive sessions which focused on mutual understanding and peace; cultural initiatives of the society for rebuilding and renovations of various Sufi shrines in Kashmir, working for Hindu-Muslim unity and the return of Kashmiri Pandits back to the Valley. He also discussed with the Governor the emerging political developments in the State.
Dr. Ather Masoodi, Member, International Union for Conservation of Nature Commission on Ecosystem Management called on Mr. Vohra.
Dr. Masoodi made a research based presentation to the Governor about the serious damage which weeds can cause to water bodies and particularly focused on what requires to be done for effective weed management in the Dal and Wullar lakes in Kashmir.
The Governor appreciated Dr. Masoodi’s pioneering research work in the field of weed eradication and observed that he would discuss this matter further with the State Government.
Meanwhile, Ayaz Rasool Nazki, Regional Director, Indian Council for Cultural Relations briefed the Governor about ICCR’s current activities and future programmes for projecting the valuable art and cultural traditions of the State, and the efforts which were being made by ICCR to revive and present them to the people of J&K, other parts of India and to the outside world.
