Sir,
This is in reference to the letter of Rakesh Singh published in this esteemed Daily sometime back regarding the renewal of old Driving licences. It is quite astonishing to note that the concerned authorities till date have not come up with a clear cut policy with regard to the renewal of Driving licences of Sr Citizens particularly of those whose licences have been issued three decades back by the Licencing Authorities at Srinagar during their postings there. It is criminal that suddenly the authorities are asking a Sr Citizens to go to Srinagar in the sub-zero temperature for renewal of their Driving licences. Whereas these used to get renewed at Jammu for the last thirty years. In case some data is required for authenticiy, it can obtained confidentially from the Valley and change a reasonable fee instead asking a Sr Citizen to go to the Valley in this biting cold.
“Where there is a will, there is a way” is an old saying and it is hoped that the concerned authorities will rise to the occasion and find out a workable solution so that the Sr Citizens are saved from this cumbersome procedure and allow renewal of old driving licences in Jammu as per the past practice after obtaining the necessary data from the Valley.
Yours etc…
